Your monitoring data never reaches us

TarleyNode runs on your own server, and we do not offer hosting. Your monitoring results, device details, credentials, users and history stay on that server and are never sent to us.

Visiting this website

This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page visits and measures page speed without cookies and without identifying you. It also uses Google Analytics, run through Cloudflare Zaraz, to count visits and see which pages lead to demo requests and download links. Google Analytics runs only if you agree in the cookie banner. Zaraz sets two small cookies, cf_zaraz_client and zaraz-consent, to run the banner and remember your choice. If you agree, it sets analytics cookies and sends Google the pages you view, your approximate location, your device and browser type, and whether you requested a demo or a download link. It never receives what you type into our forms. Google keeps this data for at most 14 months. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. We use no advertising cookies. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

Requesting a demo

If you request a demo, we receive your name, email address and, if you give them, your company, your message and how you heard about us. We use them only to answer your request and decide whether to send an invitation. Nothing is emailed to you until we send an invitation by hand.

Invitations and download links

If you ask for a download link on our Download page, we receive the email address you enter. If it belongs to someone we have invited, we email a link that works once. We give the same answer whatever address you enter, so the page never reveals who is a customer.

When we invite you, we record whether our invitation email was sent, delivered or bounced, and whether you then downloaded TarleyNode, started a trial or bought a licence. We use this only to follow up on the invitation.

Buying a licence

When you buy a licence we collect:

  • your email address, and your name if you give it
  • confirmation that you control that email address
  • your order, the licence you bought and its PayPal order and payment references
  • the version of our terms you agreed to at checkout

Your invoice

Each sale produces an invoice showing your email address, what you bought, the amount, the date, the PayPal payment reference and the terms version you agreed to. We email it to you through Resend and keep it unchanged for at least seven years, as South African company law requires. You can ask for a copy at any time.

Reminders and follow-up emails

If you have a paid licence, we email you from sales@tarleynode.com up to three times before it ends, at 90, 60 and 30 days, to ask whether you would like a renewal quote. If you are evaluating TarleyNode and ticked the box agreeing to emails when you requested a demo, we email you at 60 and 30 days before your evaluation ends to ask how it is going and whether you would like to buy. If you started a 30-day trial yourself and ticked the same kind of box in the console, we send that email once, 7 days before the trial ends. If you did not tick the box, we do not send these emails. These emails use only your licence or trial end date, sensor tier and number of servers, and contain no tracking.

Every invitation, reminder and follow-up email has an Unsubscribe link. Using it stops all of these emails for you, is recorded on your customer record, and means we will not invite you again. Your licence is not affected.

Emails you ask for yourself, such as trial codes, download links, licence keys and invoices, are service messages and are always sent.

Paying

Payments are handled by PayPal. We never see or store your card or bank details. PayPal processes your payment information under its own privacy policy.

During checkout our licence centre sets one strictly necessary cookie to keep your checkout session secure. It is not used for tracking.

Licence checks and updates

To check its licence and look for updates, each installation sends us:

  • its licence and installation ID
  • a server fingerprint, which is a one-way code and not a list of your hardware
  • the TarleyNode version and server architecture it runs
  • whether an update it installed succeeded or failed

We do not keep IP addresses

Our licence and update servers do not store or log the IP address your server or browser connects from. Your installation is recognised only by its fingerprint and installation ID, and we store those as keyed one-way codes rather than in readable form.

To stop abuse, our update server briefly uses a scrambled form of the IP address in memory to limit how often requests can be made. It is never written to disk. Our servers sit behind Cloudflare, which processes IP addresses to protect them from attack.

Emailing us

Email to support@, sales@ and info@tarleynode.com reaches our own support system through Cloudflare Email Routing. We store your email address and message so we can answer you and keep a record of the conversation. Attachments are not stored, except TarleyNode support packs and a PDF sent to info@ at a time we have asked for one. Those are kept for 90 days and then deleted.

Phoning us

If you phone us, our phone system records the time and length of the call and the last three digits of your number, to confirm calls are arriving. We keep this for 90 days and then delete it.

Feedback you send

If you use Send feedback in the console, we receive your message, the page you were on, your TarleyNode version and any screenshot you choose to attach, together with your licence and installation ID. No email address or name is attached. Please leave passwords, personal details and other secrets out of feedback and screenshots.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • to deliver your licence and activation code, check that licences are valid, deliver updates and answer support requests, because this is needed to provide what you bought (performing our contract with you)
  • to answer your demo request, send your invitation and download link, and help you evaluate TarleyNode, because you asked us to (steps you requested before a contract)
  • to keep financial records of each sale, because tax and company law require it (a legal obligation). Unsubscribing or withdrawing consent does not end this, because the law requires the records
  • to prevent fraud and misuse of licences, protect our servers and improve TarleyNode from feedback, because we have a legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable product
  • to measure visits to this website with Google Analytics, only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with Cookie settings
  • to send customers renewal reminders about TarleyNode, as section 69(3) of POPIA and the rules for existing customers in the EU and UK allow, with an Unsubscribe link in every email

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run TarleyNode: Cloudflare (website delivery, cookieless website analytics, email routing and server protection), Google (website analytics, only with your consent), PayPal (payments) and Resend (email delivery). We never sell personal information or use it for advertising.

International transfers

TarleyNode is run from South Africa, and our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States. If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, your information is therefore transferred outside it. Where the law requires, these transfers are protected by standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK, or by an equivalent safeguard.

How long we keep it

We keep invoices and sale records unchanged for at least seven years after the sale, and then delete them. Section 24 of South Africa’s Companies Act 71 of 2008 requires a company to keep its accounting records for seven years. Sections 29 and 32 of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011 require records to be kept for five years from the tax return they support, so the seven-year period covers both. Section 14 of POPIA allows us to keep personal information for as long as a law requires. You can ask for a copy of any of your invoices at support@tarleynode.com. Licence and installation records are kept while your licence is active and for as long afterwards as we need them to answer licence and support questions. Demo requests are deleted after 90 days. Invitations that did not lead to a trial or licence, and the details we held only for that invitation, are deleted after 90 days, as are copies of the emails we send you and their delivery records. Unused download links, unpaid checkouts and unused email confirmations are deleted within a few days of expiring. Emails you send us are kept for as long as they help us answer you and later questions, unless you ask us to delete them. Feedback is kept for as long as it is useful for improving TarleyNode.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you a copy
  • correct information that is wrong or out of date
  • delete information we no longer need to keep
  • stop or limit how we use your information, including objecting to use based on our legitimate interests
  • give you the information you provided in a common, machine-readable format so you can move it elsewhere
  • stop reminders and follow-up emails at any time, using the Unsubscribe link in any of them or by emailing us

Making a request or complaint

Email support@tarleynode.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za. If you are in the European Union you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live, and in the United Kingdom to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Keeping it safe

Information is sent over encrypted connections, installation identities are stored only as keyed one-way codes, and access to our systems is limited to what is needed to run TarleyNode. If a breach puts your information at risk, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

Decisions and profiling

We do not use your information for profiling or make decisions about you by automated means alone, apart from checking whether a licence is valid.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be emailed to customers.
