TarleyNode compared with PRTG Network Monitor.

TarleyNode and PRTG are both self-hosted network monitors priced by sensors. This page sets out how they differ on price and features, so you can judge which fits your network.

Price

Both products count sensors, where one sensor is one check on one device. At the same sensor count, TarleyNode’s list price is about a quarter of PRTG’s, and still well under half with failover added.

SensorsPRTG, per year (incl. 1 failover node)TarleyNode, per yearTarleyNode with HA (3 nodes)
500USD 2,400USD 600USD 1,080
1,000USD 4,296USD 1,050USD 1,530
2,500USD 8,904USD 2,250USD 2,730

PRTG is billed monthly at USD 200, 358 and 742 for these tiers, paid yearly. TarleyNode’s high availability costs USD 480 a year and covers three nodes. Even with it, TarleyNode costs less than half of PRTG at every tier. Both offer a free edition with 100 sensors.

PRTG prices are Paessler’s published list prices as of 6 October 2026. Resellers may offer discounts. TarleyNode prices exclude tax.

Features

What both do: network discovery with device templates, SNMP (including v3 traps), syslog, NetFlow, sFlow and IPFIX, MIB import, Windows performance counters, multi-step web transaction checks, thresholds and escalations, maintenance windows, dependencies, maps, monitoring of remote sites, failover, single sign-on, two-step sign-in, custom reports, an API, and alerts by email, SMS, Teams, Slack and ServiceNow.

Where PRTG is ahead

  • Around 320 sensor types, against TarleyNode’s smaller set.
  • Deeper Windows monitoring through WMI, including dedicated Active Directory and Exchange sensors.
  • Server hardware health through Redfish and IPMI.
  • SLA reports that exclude maintenance windows.
  • Desktop and phone apps, and a hosted edition.
  • Proven at 10,000 sensors and more.

Where TarleyNode differs

  • Unlimited users on every licence.
  • Read-only on your devices: it never changes device configuration.
  • Configuration backups with change alerts that show what changed, without putting configuration lines in the alert.
  • Built-in nightly encrypted backups with one-step restore.
  • Alerts behind a failed upstream device are held back automatically.
  • PagerDuty, Jira and Telegram alerts, with quiet hours for each destination.
  • An address list for each site showing monitored, seen and free addresses, plus asset and warranty tracking.

Switching from PRTG

You can run TarleyNode next to PRTG during the 30-day trial without changing anything on your devices. Both read from your devices, and neither one locks the other out.

  1. Install TarleyNode on a separate server or virtual machine.
  2. Run a discovery scan of the same network PRTG monitors, using the same SNMP and Windows credentials.
  3. Compare the alerts and reports from both over a few weeks.
  4. Switch when you are satisfied, and keep PRTG until its subscription ends.
